Andromeda

Description

At 2.5 million light-years away, the  Andromeda Galaxy is our closest neighbouring galaxy. With an expanse of 152.000 light-years it is the biggest member of the Local Group, larger than the Milky Way but with a comparable mass. This barred spiral galaxy has an apparent magnitude of 3.4 and is visible to the naked eye form earth.  

Andromeda derives its name from the constellation in which it appears, which itself is named after the mythological Aethiopian princess, daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia and wife of Perseus. 

The future of Andromeda is intertwined with that of our own galaxy since both are destined to merge in an astronomical dance billions of years from now. This marvel bridges the gap between ancient myths the boundless wonders of the universe and our own faraway future.
